DOMINION NEWS.

NO-LICENSE IN MASTERTON. (Per Press Association.) Mastorton, November 20. At a meeting of business men held here last week the following resolution was carried: “That those present are of opinion that No-liconse has proved a failure, and that steps be taken to have licenses restored in the Masterton electorate.” A meeting of citizens interested has been called for Thursday evening next. THE GOVERNOR. Nelson, November 20. ' Lord Islington reached,Nelson overland from Blenheim tins evening, and was welcomed by the Mayor. A public welcome will be tendered to-morrow. The Governor will attend the Nelson show and also visit Motueka. Ho leaves on Thursday for the West Coast.

MEETING OF CABINET. Christchurch, November 20..; A meeting of the Cabinet was held in Christchurch this afternoon, and the following amounts were authorised :—Railway rolling stock, £40,000 ; roads and bridges, £16,000. The lowest tender for the erection of the Ohura Post Office was accepted. THE HAYNES CASE. Christchurch, November 20. The recommendation of the Petitions Committee in regard to the Haynes case was brought before the Cabinet, and it was decided to go into the matter fully after the elections were over. The Cabinet will thten deal with the recommendations. TIMARU WHARF LUMPERS. Timaru, November 20. The local representatives of the shipping companies have replied to the request of the wharf labourers for a conference on the proposed new agreement (which raises wages and frames new conditions) that they cannot confer on any agreement outside the Arbitration Act, as it would not be binding. Some of the proposed conditions are quite unworkable. Reference to the Act is an allusion to the fact that the union has cancelled its registration.

ARCHDEACON HARPER. Timaru, November 20. A meeting convened by the Mayor resolved to give a citizens’ farewell and a purse to Archdeacon Harper, who, after 36 years’ hero, leaves for England next month. The Ministers’ Association will take part. The Archdeacon is popular with all ranks for Ids strong vein of patriotism.
