STRATFORD A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OP THE GENERAL COMMITTEE. VARIOUS MATTERS DISCUSSED. A meeting of the general committee of the A. and P. Association was held on' Saturday afternoon. Present:— Messrs Dingle (in the chair), Good, Hobos, R. Masters, Watkins, Webb, Richards, Pederson Swaddling, J. Thomson, Thomas, A. Stewart, Songster, Shutter, and Lynn. Chairman's Report.
Tho chairman reported as follows oa behalf of the executive committee: Wo bog to report that tho executive committee have mot on ten occasions since last general meeting and everything in connection with the show are now well forward. The horse and hull,boxes arc now completed and will be a great convenience to exhibitors during the show. Fat stock pens and additional pens for cattle have been erected, also gates across races, which will enable cattle to lie drafted into their respective pens more easily than was the ease last year. All the judges have now been appointed to the different classes, also stewards and other officials. The secretary has visited the Palmerston, Hawera, and Wanganui shows and the support promised from exhibitors is very gratifying. Entries arc coming to hand very freely. Mr J)in<dc urged members to help the Association by canvassing for entries.. In many cases people had good stock, but did not take tho trouble to enter it at the show although it was quite capable of winning a prise. The present would he the last meeting of the general committee and 1 lie executive desired to hear from members any suggestions they might have to males regarding tho show. Good weather for die show was expected, on the ground that there had been so much Dad weather in the past Ilia: there could hardly he any more to come. They expected- two rattling line clays, [icys to Lead Stock. Mr Thomas asked if the committee had made arrangements for boys to lead stock. It was desirable to have available people who had some experience. He would not mind paying a trifle for such services. The chairman said the matter could ho attended to by the stewards in charge of tho cattle classes. Charge for Admission. Mr Richards said the Hawera people alleged that they had a grievance against the Stratford Society. They said that they had raised their price of admission in order to fall in with the Stratford Society, and that the Stratford Society failed to raise the price similarly. / They further said that their price had been raised as they understood that it was intended to_ make tho Stratford charge two shillings.
The chairman said that in a letter dated October 2Gth the Hawcra Association. had asked that Stratford raise the price, blit a reply had been sent to the effect that Stratford could not do so as the price had already been fixed. Nothing was heard from .Halve ra on the matter until after the price had been fixed. , Mr Richards asked if there was any suggestion that last year Stratford promised to raisa the pr'o The chairman sail tiic-rj was not. He said 'hat in September HjO, Ho Stratford .••ninety wrote to Tlaweia suggesting a conference of delegates to discuss this and other matters, but the conference had not been held. On this letter being road Mr Thomson said it proved that the matter had originated with the Stratford Association.
Mr Webb said that in Hawera the belief was fairly general tliat the Stratford price would be two shillings.
Herees in Flint Road. t Mr Richards asked if something could not be done to stop people leaving horses and carts on Flint Mood. It v?as a dangerous practice, and excellent accommo.lat.on was proxit!ox! on tim ground at a very moderate. charge. The cliuirman said the Association had asked the •Borough ('mined to help them ia the matter. Mr Thomas said tliey should not go too lar. Tliey should lix a limit, not allowing horses and carts to bo left within, say, live chains of the main gate. Mr Richards said it would be hard to carry on if allowances were made. The chairman said that at Hawera no horses were seen tied up outside the ground.
Mr Jiiehards said ho had not brought the question up with a view to forcing people to use the accommodation on the ground, hut merely on the ground of public safety. No Dinner at Show Time.
in reply to Mr Webb the chairman said it was not intended to hold a di imcr to entertain visitors in connection with this year’s show. Last year everybody was tired when (he dinner came on and there was c.iiiiculty getting people to bo present. The dinner at show time was being done away with in a number of centres. Minister for AgricuStura. In answer to a question the chairman said the Hon. T. Mackenzie (Minister for Agriculture) had been invited to he present nt the show. New Mensbsrs Elected. The following now members were elected: Mr A. Dean (Wh angamomona), Rev 15. Mctson, Messrs Cl. A, Harris (Toko), A. J. Fever, W. MeiNeeley, .T. Ryan (Whangamomona), N. Deere, N. Fulton, J. Schofield, CL Mumhy, ,'J. T. Gardiner, A. Cliff (New Plymouth), A. Walters (Douglass), J. Hurley (Palmerston North), •I. Rurkott, L. Rogers, T. Sullivan and W. Jeukinson and Co. (New Plymouth). ' The chairman said the association was losing a number of members who had loft the district, hut twice as many new ones were joining the Association.
