New ten Kins’s Weekly Report. Oh Friday, the IGtii inst., 1 held my annual pedigree Jersey sale at my \Vaiwakamo yards, and Had a large attendance ot iniyers from all parts of Taranaki, and some from as far as Sodding and llongotca. Out of the 0 liead catalogued, only 41 wore penned, and of mese 2d were disposed of at the hammer. Bidding throughout was not as keen as at former sales for male stock, but the cows and heifers yarded elicited keen ' competition. r lhe top price realised was for Mr \V. 4. Bail’s imported bull “Liryclear Lad,” which sold for 50 guineas. Other bulls sold from 13 to 47 guineas, cows 31 to 33 guineas, i cal ling heifers, 2d) to -10 guineas. Heifer calves, 10 to 38 guineas. On Monday, at my fortnightly sale at Urenui, 1 had a good yarding, though not so heavy as at my . last sale. Yearling cattle did not meet with much enquiry. A line pen of 8 fat Shorthorn heifers on account of Messrs. Kirton Bros., met with good bidding, and realised £4 Ids. Some nice 2 year Jersey-Holstoin heifers on account of the same vendors realised to; yearling heifers, fair quality, 40s (id to 17a; grade Jersey in poor condition, £2 15s to £3; yearling steers, poor, 3(is; 2 year empty heifers, small, £3 10s (id; Holsteins, good, £1 ■ls to £4- 15s (id; Jersey steers, £3 5s to £3 17s; store cows, £2 ids to £3 Ids (id; fat cows, £d to £d Is; forward cows, £4 12s, 3. year steers £5 10s, 2 year do. (good) £4 10a, cows (springing and in milk), £4 10s to £8 7s del; heifers, do., good, £d 7s Gel; others, £3 2s to £5 7s del; Shorthorn bull, £5 7s del; Jersey, £3 5s to £7; others, £3 to £3 ss; yearlings, 32s dd to £2 los.
At my spring cattle sale at Stratford yards on Tuesday, 14th, the largest yarding of cattle seen in Stratford yards for some years came forward for disposal, fully taxing my yards. Included in the total were 400 grown bullocks, which attracted buyers from all parts of the coast. Steers, empty heifers, and yearlings, were in excess of advertised numbers, making in all a total of close on 2500 head. For the bullocks I had good enquiry, and every line was cleared at the hammer or privately at satisfactory prieds. Two-year steers were not enquired for. The bidding throughout for store and forward cows was brisk. Yearling heifers opened very slack in bidding, but improved during the afternoon, and towards the close of the sale I had quite keen competition for several lines. A nice well-grown pen of yearling grade Holstein heifers (all coloured) sold to a Wanganui buyer after good bidding, at £4 ss. Very few fat cows and bullocks wore yarded, but those in sold well. A pen of 2 year grade Holstein heifers was disposed of privately at £5 ss; othdr 2 years heifers I had no enquiry for. Prices were: Bullocks £G 17s to £0 18s, 3 to 4 year do. £5 15s to £3 Is, 3 year do. (small) £4 14s to £5 ss, yearling to 18 months heifers (mixed) £2 8s Gd, grade Shorthorns' £2 15s to £2 19s, grade Jerseys £2 15s Gd to £3 7s, grade Holstcins, £4 ss, yearling steers (poor) 30s, good £2 10s to £2 19s, mixed; yearling £2 10s to £2 15s, empty 2 year heifers (Holstein) £5 ss, others £3 10s to £4 2s Gd, store cows (old and poor) 30s to £2 3s Gd, good £3 8s to £4, forward £4 2s to £4 Cs Gd, cows and calves £3 15s, yearling Holstein bull £3, do. Shorthorn £3, 2 year Jersey £4 7s Gd, fat bullocks- £8 7s Gd, fat cows £5 19s, fat ewes 18s.
: On the same day 1 had a good entry at my springing heifer sale, and a fair attendance of the public. The sale, by the courtesy of Messrs. Young, Hobbs and Co., was held in their yards. Springing heifers £4 17s Gd to £6, springing cows and cows in milk £4 to £8 17s Gd. At Stony River yards on Wednesday I had only a fair entry, the majority of the cows being in poor condition. The dairy cows especially were a poor lot, and realised from £3 12s Gd to £4 .1 /ss, yearling heifers £2 15s to £3 10s Gd, yearling steers (pom) 275, good £2 12s, yearling Jersey bull £2, do. Shorthorn £G, heifer ami calf £3 IGs Gd, 2 year empty heifers £4 2s Gd, fat cows £5 17s, old cow 21s, store cows £2 5s to £3 18s. forward £4, pedigree Hereford bull £lO, yearling Holstein bull £8 ss, springing heifers £4 15s to £5 7s Gd, springing cows £B, bulls £5 to £B. Matthews and Burnett's Report. Messrs. Matthews and Bonnet report that there was a good entry of cattle in their Inglewood yards on Wednesday last, most lots changing hands.
