A CHINAMAN’S SUICIDE. (Received 20, 10.5 a.m.) Melbourne, November 20: Soong, a Chinese missioner, hanged -himself, in the Chinese Methoclist Church. TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP. (Received 20, 10,5 a.m.) Melbourne, November 20. Following are the tennis championship grand totals:—Victoria 11 rubbers, 25 sets, 217 games; New South Wales, 10 rubbers, 25 sets, 215 games. Brookes'and Addison showed remarkably good form, winning every thing competed in.
VISITING TENNIS PLAYERS. (Received 20, 10.5 a.m.) Melbourne, November 20. The Sydney Tennis Association lias decided to invite the American Davis Cup players to visit Australia. They will defray expenses and allow a substantial proportion of the gate, the visitors to choose the form of contests. STRIKE NARROWLY AVERTED. (Received 20„ 10.5 a.in.) Melbourne, November 20. A bakers’ strike was narrowly averted. A meeting of the men practically decided on immediate cessation. Mr. Carmichael appeared and succeeded in persuading them not to take the drastic step. VICTORIAN ELECTIONS. Melbourne, November 20. The result of the second count, with one electorate still to come, is that the position is unchanged.
