THE COMING SHOWS.

TARANAKI AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY. Entries for the Taranaki Motrooolitan Show closed on Saturday nigirc last, and as was expected the results are highly satisfactory. I lie total number of entries received by the secretary on Saturday night, V 0 per cent, in advance of any other previous show, and tho quality of the stock that will ho seen at tho New Plymouth show on Wednesday and Thursday next is exceptional. The entries to hand will account for considerably over eleven hundred live stock -exhibits, and with entries still to arrive from the Society’s agents, last year’s results will he doubled. The most striking advance in entries are in the horse competitions, and the average for tho jumping competitions is something like twenty-five, and in these competitions the champion jumpers of all the previous shows will meet and the public will he able to witness a keen competition for the challenge trophy, which is being offered this year. Another interesting feature of the show will he the display of some three hundred exhibits in tho dog pavilion. This department has' been taken in hand by a hard working committee of dog fanciers, and it is pleasing that the results are so satisfactory. In all the high class dairy competitions large entries have been received, and it will ho very interesting to watch the results of tiro judging. The sheep exhibits will be double that of last' year. The pig classes, as usual, have not brought forth the competition one would expect in a district such as New Plymouth, but some line specimens will be brought along from other parts. A line display of export butter and cheese and pounded and fancy butter ■will be on view. With the results as above, New Plymouth should be in for a great week, and all that is now wanted is fine weather.

STRATFORD A. AND P. SHOW. Intending exhibitors who have not yet made their entries have now only three days in which to do so, all the entry lists closing on Thursday, 23rd inst. A large number of entries were received by the secretary at the Association’s .office on the Egmont and Wanganui show grounds. A number of exhibitors expressed appreciation of the convenience to obtain information and make entries at the office as provided on the above show grounds. An office will also be installed at tho Taranaki Show on Wednesday and Thursday next. Splendid entries have been received in the horse classes, including thoroughbreds and hacks. In this section tho pony classes have jdso well filled. In tho pedigree dairy stock section ,somo magnificent animals will be exhibited, including several recent importations from Jersey and America. A class that is creating a good deal of interest is a class provided in pedigree Jerseys, Holstems, Ayrshire's, and Shorthorns, for a bull and three of his progeny (to be shown in milk). It is generally admitted that a bull is just as good as the stock he throws, judged on dairy qualities and with three of his progeny a fair line should bo got on these qualities. 'the progeny need not necessarily bo the property of the exhibitor. N cry fair entries have been received in pjgs- and sheep. In the dog section the entries are very numerous and the accommodation will have to ho considerably extended as compared with last year. Good entries have also been received in home industries, dairy produce, technical classes, and poultry. The latter section is under the management of the Stratford Egg Circle, and promises to be a very interesting feature of the Show. Immediately tho entry lists close (Thursday next) cataloguing will lie proceeded with and the catalogue will be printed and placed in the hands of the public as early as possible commensurate with the heavy work entailed.
