ENG LISH MINERS. STRIKE NOT LIKELY. By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. United Press Association. London, November 16. The Miners’ Federation discussed a resolution in favour of an immediate ballot on a general strike, blit the amendments to make efforts to secure a settlement without a strike ’ were carried by 666,000 to 228,000. The minority chiefly represented South Wales and Northumberland men. The Independent Labour Party’s resolutions at the Birmingham Conference wore in opposition i to Mr. Crooks’ Labour Dispute Bill, and favoured the declaration of a general strike if abolition of picketing were attempted.
The Great Northern Railway lias increased the minimum wage of the lower grades, with an advance of a shilling a week to those already receiving the new minimum scale.
SYDNEY WHARF LABOURERS. MATTER REFERRED TO A BOARD. Sydney, November 16. The constitution of a board to deal with the wharf labourers’ troubled is completed. At the request of both sides, Judge Scholes, President of the Industrial Court, has agreed to act as chairman, foregoing a portion of his vacation, on condition that the men resume under the agreement existing before the trouble. Representative men agreed to put the matter before the proper authorities, and were sure they would do the best possible to fulfil the conditions. Lbe wharf labourers have resumed on the Adelaide Company’s wharf, 'and all the others are proceeding steadily:

Timaru, November 16., The Timaru Waterside Workers’ Union invites the shipping agents to confer before the 25th hist., on the new agreement re Avages, hours apd other conditions. They ask fob Is ,9d and 2s Cd per hour for overtime .(6 p.m. to 10 p.m.) for ordinary stevedoring work, 2s and 3s for manure, cement, and coal work, and after TO p.m. overtime at the rate of 3s 6d and 4s; also re the number of gangs for different work specified and the contents of slings, and straight-out preference on the usual conditions.
