Mr AlcGowcn called attention to the interview with Mr Wade published in the papers hi regard to Mr Wiiclo s futile attempt to induce the House to remove Mr Woods’ suspension, wherein the words, “the unfairness of the Speaker’s ruling,” were used. ‘jlr McGowcn moved the word ho read amid a crossfire of interjections. Mr AlcGoweu -asked Air Wade-if:he-used the words. Mr Wade declined to answer. Mr McGowcn moved that the statement of Mr AVudn, i,mputint| unfairness to the Speaker,' was a broach; of privilege, and a gross libel on the Speaker.,,. There 'was' considerable uproar, during which several members were warn- ' Mr AVad,e, replying, admitted using the words, ; and welcomed a chance to say what had occurred in the House on the previous night. It was the culmination of a long series of events. Since the advent of the new Speaker, the Opposition had not received fair play. Ho proposed to show when he "had fairly and honestly put the facts before the House that he was insulted by the Speaker. ' The Speaker ordered Mr Wade to coniine himself to facts before the House. „ , , Air Wade said if he were allowed to traverse the events of the past thiec months he could show good grounds for the accusation. The debate was productive of warm scenes. Air AVade was several tunes warned, and said if the motion uas carried the House must stop there or face an action for trespass or offences against the law, which was bound to follow if the Government' attempted to exceed the powers conferred by statute. , ■ Mr Onslow declared the motion was vindictive, and, refusing to withdraw the word, was ejected. Air Levy was also removed tor using what the Speaker _ termed an “oifonive” remark. . The motion was eventually earned bv.36 to 23. . . ' Mr AVade when the envision was taken. ... ~ The House then proceeded with its ordinary business.
