The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., JScratford branch, . report, hbldihgi their ; usual monthly sale at their Kqhurafaln yards oh Friday,' 3rd' instant, when there was a fair yarding of SUO head of cattle' most of which were sold al the hammer and afterwards at the following prices; Yearling heifers (small) 40s 9d to 545, yearling steers (small and low condition) 40s-, medium quality 555, and fair average quality up to 58s lid, 15 to 16-mouth steers to 05s, empty 2-year heifers 75s to 85s, store bullocks up to 122 s 6d, yearling to 2-year biills 40s to 105 s, store cow's (low r condition and poor) 41s to Sis, springing heifers 90s to 105 s, and dairy cows'from 82s Cd to lolls for anything showing quality. On December Bth, as advertised in your paper, w'o will hold our next sale at ivohuratalii.
We field our usual weekly heifer sale at our Stratford yards on Saturday, 4th November, when there w v as only a small yarding of 42 iiead, most of which were disposed of at the hammer and at somewhat lower prices than vendors’ ideas of value. The heifers were small and in low' condition for -.this time of tile year, prices realised being as follows: From 95s for small anti inferior tip to 130 s for medium quality. Cows, of which only a few were yarded realised 127 s 6a to 1455.
We held our usual fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards on Tuesday, the 7th instant, when we had a good yarding of 5G9 head, mostly farmers lines, and of which wc practically sold all at the hammer and afterwards. There appeared to he a much keener demand for all classes of stock, and tiie following prices were realised: — Yearling to 15-mohth steers (small and of poor quality) 40s, medium quality 545, fair to good quality up to 625, 15-month heifers (small and low in condition) 48s 6d to Gls Gel for medium quality. Jersey-Holstein cross heifers wore in very keen demand for fair quality, realising 70s to 70s 6d, empty heifers keenly competed for from 72s Gd to 795; forward cows, bulky, made from 90s Gd to 100 s; store cows', low condition, realised 50s to S2s; fat cows were very keenly competed for, realising 116 s to 122 s for good quality. Cows with calves at foot realised 80s, yearling bulls 44s to 85s, dairy heifers 75s to 110 s, dairy com s 120 s to 160 s. Wo also offered on account of Mr Frethey a particularly nice line of Jersey-Holstein-Ayr-shire heifers which looked remarkably well and were sold under very keen competition Doth from local and outside farmers. The pen showing most Jersey realised 89s Gd, the next pen of Ayrshire cross went for 78s, and the last pen of heifers realised 775. Lamason and Melville’s Weekly ReportOn Saturday last we had a large entry of poultry and produce, the prices ruling were vcrv_ satisfactory throughout. Poultry: There was a heavy entry, including a nice line of 44 white Leghorns from Hawera. The demand was keen, killing roosters especially being eagerly sought after, late prices being fully maintained. We quote:— Roosters Is lid to 2s 7d each, hens (good) 2s 4d to 2s lOd, (poor) Is -Id to Is 7d, ducks Is 9d to 2s sd, turkeys (small) Gs. Produce: Cauliflowers 4s to Gs Gd doz, rhubarb 7s to 8s per doz bundles, table potatoes 9s Gd sack, seed potatoes unsaleable, pollard 150 lb sacks 10s Gd, 2001 b sacks 14s to 14s Gd. Gents’ bicycles £2 12s to £6 15s, Duncan plough £-1 10s. Large quantity of furniture, drapery, and sundries at usual rates.
