KOHURATAHI NOTES.

(From Oyr Own Correspondent.) A dance was held here on Friday evening last, promoted by the local Hall Committee, and tnough the, i number of ladies present was not so high as usual, still a very pleasant evening was spent. Mr. Dan Sutherland, of Whangar momona, has joined the staff of Mr. D. B. Howard, our local storekeeper, as baker. He is well known here, and will prove a welcome asset to the township society. Mr. 1). Bombolt met with a painful accident while hushfelling last week. He was felling a big -tree, when a dead limb fell, striking him on the head. First-aid was rendered by his companions, Messrs Wyatt Bros., and lie was then conveyed to a neighbouring settler’s homestead, where lie is making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Shearing is in full swing at MT. McCutchan’s shed on the Eohuratahi Road, and will shortly bo general all over the district.

I hear that Mr. H. Wilkinson, of the Mangnpapa, has a flock of ewes which have produced 118 per cent, of lambs this season.

Messrs. Minchin and Bottomloy, partners in an estate on the Mold Road, both met with accidents last week. Mr. Bottomley had his arm broken by a falling branch while hushfclling, and is at present in Stratford. Mr. M'ipchin suffered a had fall a day or two afterwards, dropping,a sheer 50ft. into about six inched of water. The marvel is that he escaped with his life, hut as far as can 1)3 ascertained at present, his injuries are not of a very serious nature.

Mr. Lesl io Aylward, of Marangai Block, is at present away south spending a holiday ’mid the scenes ol his youth.

Arrangements are well forward for the great bazaar to he held in our hall on the 23rd inst. Every detail has been well anticipated and arranged for, and we are confident of establishing a record for the district in affairs of this kind.
