SHIPPING AT PATEA.
(To the Editor “Stratford Post.”) Sir, —We notice a report in “Hawera>Star” of 111st October to tlio effect, that -spine, seventy-tons of cargo ;\vns landed at, Patea ex .sis. 'Aorere, and'then railed on to Wanganui Tins statement is grossly exaggerated, as only : a few tons of -Wanganui' cargo went that way. Aa, consignees in your district may think it unfair that these 1 casual Wanganui ‘ shippers should have the preference' over regular 1 shippers, we shall be glad if you will publish the above correction. As a matter of fact, we were, strongly urged to run the Aorere to Wanganui with full loads, 15s per ton being offered, and 20s per ..ton ..easily obtainable during tne strike; and as the westerly aveatheri. since the middle of October has so affected the Patea bar, we could have run a good many trips to Wanganui in the time, instead of only the two we were able to run to Patea. But wo decided to study the interests of our regular shippers and stick to the Patea run. —-Yours faithfully, W. and G> TURNBULL AND CO., Agents s.s. Aorere. Wellington, November 3, 1911.
