George Bianchi, of Stratford, groom, has filed a declaration of insolvency.
At the inquest yesterday on the body of Thelma Edwards the jury strongly recommended that parents should keep children away from the lake in Victoria Park, unless they were accompanied by an adult. During the absence through illness of Mr. J. R. Mackay, Mr. G. Hunter iwill,carry out the duties of secirtary to the Racing Club. Mr. E. Jackson, secretary of the Stratford A. and P. Association, will be on the ground on both days of the Egmont A. and P. Association’s Show. He will he housed in a tent, wherein ho will l)e only ton pleased to accept entries for the Stratford A. and P. Association’s fixture.
'i ho dangers of burning off old paint by means of a benzine blast lamp were again exemplified yesterday, says the “News,” when one'of these lamps was being used on tiie Taranaki Hotel. The flumes ignited the light timber in the framing of one of the windows, and speedily placed the building in danger for a while, but the flames were soon extinguished.
Fifteen civil cases (one defended), three judgment summons, two informations for riding bicycles on the footpath, one information for procuring liquor for a prohibited person, one ii’formation for obscene language, two informations for cruelty to animals, and two informations for leaving dead animals on the bank of a creek, will be dealt with at the sitting of the Magistrate’s Court on Friday next.
A wrestling match for the middleweight championship of Taranaki has been arranged to take place in New Plymouth at an early date, says the “News.” The committee has arranged a good programme, and, being purely an amateur contest, they have decided to give the proceeds (minus expenses) to the Taranaki Garrison Hand funds, a course that will doubtless 1)0 approved of by the public of New Plymouth.
Mr (A I). Sole, J.P., acted as coroner at the inquest held yesterday morning on the body of Thelma Edwards, the three-year-old daughter of Mr J. Edwards, of East Road, who was drowned in Victoria Park lake yesterday morning. The following jury was cnipannellcd :• —Messrs A. C. Marr (foreman), J. H. Burmester, C. E. Janies, S. (». Rhnmington, 11. Edgecombe, and H. Tonks. A verdict of accidental deatli by drowning was returned.
During the examination in the B.M. Court yesterday of a judgment debtor, counsel asked what had become of the proceeds of a sale of certain property, says the “Nows.” The debtor said he hadn’t got anything out of it, that the whole of the proceeds hail been mopped up by the sec-
ond mortgagee. “And who was the second mortgagee?” persisted counsel. The debtor promptly named a well-known firm of solicitors, one of whom was in Court at the time, and who drew the whole of tlie attention of the Court for some seconds. The lawyers smiled.
