The Stratford Evening Post WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE EGMONT SETTLER. TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 1911. THE COUNTY ELECTIONS.
ft is an unfortunate circumstance that Hr ]). L. A. Astbury’s nomination as a candidate to represent the West Riding of the Stratford County in the new Council should have missed lire, because Mr Astbury has been a very useful and energetic "councillor, and further nobody likes to see a man beaten ou a mere technicality. At the same time his case is a solemn
warning to all who desire to compete in an election not to leave the necessary matter of nomination to the last moment, in ca.so of accident. Mr Astbury’s letter in another column will bo read with interest, and wo hope, under the circumstances, his challenge w illbe accepted. His reference to Mr C. A. Marchant is certainly to bo commended and wo most heartily endorse Mr Astbury’s view that it would be lolly to lose Mr Marchant’s services. We go further, and state unhesitatingly that it would lie a positive disaster to the County if Mr Marchant were not returned at this election. An attempt to prejudice Mr Marchant’s chances at the poll is being made in some quarters rather unfairly and in one instance lie puts matters very clearly in a letter which appears over his signature in our correspondence columns.
