AMUSEMENTS.

ROYAL PICTURES. The Town Hall, Stratford, was well attended hist night, when the enterprising proprietors of the Royal Pielures gave a special programme. A much-heralded and certainly wonderfully dramatic production entitled “In the'Grip of Alcohol,” was presented, but its gruesomeness made it’ quite outside what should constitute an ordinary entertainment for ordinary people. “Niagara Falls” was a beautiful scenic picture, and quite a lot of other good films were shown. Certainly the portion of the programme which was most worthy, most artistic, and most popular, was a long scenic film showing portions of Taranaki, and the audience frequently applauded as they wore taken from old Devon Street," in the mother town, to the wonders of the Mokau River. This picture ought to prove one of the biggest picture attractions Taranaki has ■over seen.
