BRITAIN AND GERMANY.
London, November 3
The Anglo-German Friendship Society, at a meeting at the Mansion House at which the Lord Mayor presided, passed a resolution in favour :>f a rapprochement with Germany, and an Anglo-German exhibition in London in 1919. A special committee to promote the scheme was formed. Lord Weardale, Sir F. Lascollcs, late Ambassador to Germany, Mr. Noel Buxton, M.P., and Lord Courtney were the speakers. Berlin, November 3.
Herr Lindcquist has resigned the Colonial Secretaryship, as lie disapproves of tire agreement. London, November 4.
Sir Goo. Reid approves the AngloGerman exhibition as .a practical n.oans of ‘‘talking peace.”
Berlin, November 4. The “Tageblatt” states that the proposal is ill-timed, and is doubtful whether the unofficial uress regards Mr. Lloyd-George’s bellicose speech at a critical juncture a,s a warning to Germany. Other newspapers are equally averse to the proposition. (Received 6, 9 a.in.) Berlin, November 5.
Government organs deplore the Colonial Office’s attempt to impede the Chancellor’s policy as incompatible with the orderly conduct of Imperial affairs. Other papers anticipate the disclosure of Ministerial differences in the Reichstag and during the elections. They contend that it is a good bargain on paper, while Germany's prestige is damaged.
