The Stratford Evening Post WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE EGMONT SETTLER. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 1911. MR. WINE’S MEETING.

Mr J. B. Hine last night addressed a large and sympathetic meeting in the Town Hall, when he delivered the first of his series of postponed election addresses. Ho was warmly received, applauded on rising, and listened to attentively throughout. Though the candidate had little new, to tell his audience—for the stale old political game, as played in this country by the “ins” and “outs,” is so well known that one would almost rather not hear any more about it—he spoke with a fearless indifference to consequences, which could not but be applauded. Of course, Mr Hine is a straightout Oppositionist, with no excuses for the other side, and his friends had no reason to complain that he had weakened. His utterances last night were, if anything, more explicit than ever, and on the licensing question he made his stand clear. The resolution with which the meeting concluded will probably be endorsed by many people, blit we frankly admit wo do not expect to see their desire granted. To our mind, what is really wrong is the method of Government: New Zealand has made many experiments in her legislation and why not try an experiment on her Legislature? Let her boldly throw Party to the winds—and if the result is not better it surely could not bo worse. Politics at this present time and under the present system is merely a name for Party wrangle, and any stick is good enough to boat tiie other dog with. Let us abolish Party!
