CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER.
THE WELLINGTON AFFAIR
.Per Press Association.) Wellington, November 3,
An inquest was held to-day by Dr. A. McArthur, District Coroner, touching the death of George Gunther, who died from injuries alleged to have been caused by a blow delivered by Edward Francis Moffitt. Chief-De-tective Broberg watched the case on behalf of the police, and Mr A. L. Hordman appeared for Moffitt. After hearing evidence of medical and other witnesses, the coroner returned a verdict that death was caused by fracture of the skull on the left side, and rupture of the middle meningeal artery on the right side, causing hemorrhage, with subsequent compression of the brain. As far as Moffitt was concerned it was a case of pure misadventure.
Moffitt appeared at the Magistrate’s Court this morning, charged with manslaughter, and was remanded, bail being allowed in a sum of £l5O.
