PALMERSTON SHOW.
SECOND DAY. (Per Press Association.) Palmerston North, November 2. There was glorious weather for the second day of the Manawatu spring shoK and a large attendance. Tho Governor formally declared the show open, congratulating the association on the splendid exhibition, and stating that he would have an opportunity of comparing- the premier shows .of the two islands. Sheep, cattle, and horses were all judged to-day, the judges speaking in high terms of the splendid quality of the stock. In fat cattle the judge remarked that in a recent visit to England he had attended all the principal shows, and at none but the two premier shows of Great Britain had he siom anything to equal those judge! In-day Following are the champion awards: Horses. Champion hack, W. 11. Gaisford (Oi-ingi). Draught stqllion, E. Short; reserve champion, J. S. Oughton (Okaiawa). Draught mare, E. Short; reserve champion, H. M. Campbell. Gelding in regular work, Wellington City Corporation. Gelding (three years), R. D. Knight. Cattle. Shorthorn bull, G .A. Turner (Eltham). Shorthorn cow, W*. T. Williams (Te Ante). Herofords: Bull, E.'Short: cow, E. Short. Ayrshire?: Bull Porirua Mental Hospital; cow, W. P. Havre (Rata). Jerseys: Bull, J. A. McCrea; cow, A. Buchanan. Holsteins: Bull, AY. J. Lovelock; cow, AY. J. Lovelock. G. F. Moore, Kai Iwi, won tho points trophy, valued at ten guineas, for fat cattle. Sheep. Lincolns: Ram. AY. Perry (Masterton) ; ewe, AY. H. AVybourne (AYaver ley). Romney Marsh: Ram, AA'm. Perry (Masterton.) ; ewe, R. Tanner. English Leicester's: Ram and ewe, S. R. Lancaster. Border Leicester's: Ram and ewe, Airs J. 1). Ormond (Hawke’s Bay). Shropshire Down: Ram and ewe, G. L. Marshall (Marton)’. Southdowns, in wool: Ram, A. J. Stor.owiggs (Opaki); ewe, S. R. Lancaster. Southdown shorn ram: Ellis Bros., (Bulls). The Dog Classes. Thiv.p.r.ki Hiiiit Club’s Success. At Hie Manawatu Kennel Club’s [show tho Taranaki Hunt Club swept the boards irr harriers. There was great competition between I l '. E. AVatson (Palmerston) and R. S. Men/.ios (Dunedin) in hull dogs. The New Zealand Irish Terrier Club’s trophies were won as follows: Best puppy dog, AA r . T. Sinclair - (Napier) ; best puppy bitch, H. H. Sheppard (Devonport) ; best bitch, novice, il. 11. Sheppard (Devonport); best dog. novice, Frank Lowrie (Auckland).
