INDUSTRIAL MATTERS.

(Per Press Association.) Auckland, November 1. Mr Scruple, organiser of the Labour Federation, interviewed, said that the talk that a general industrial upheaval was fostered by the New Zealand Federation of Labour was all empty gossip. Trouble was not likely to eventuate unless forced upon the organisation. Most of the federated unions wore working amicably under agreements arivod at round the open table. In the coal industry matters were going on smoothly, and no difficulty was likely to arise for some time at least. Trio Auckland tramwayemployees would Inuo the support of the" federation in obtaining new demands, but no trouble was anticipated, because the demands made were reasonable. Mr Semple added that he had a thorough knowledge of the conditions throughout New Zealand from an industrial standpoint, and could say that no serious trouble was imminent.

While the labour strike is in progress, two local bodies decided, for financial reasons, to curtail expenditure on street works. Those bodies reinstated only some of the men they employed previous to the strike. The Union now asserts that there lias been discrimination in favour of a few men, and calls upon the local bodies for an explanation. If not satisfied with, the answer it threatens that it will call out the men employed, and if necessary extend the strike.
