Timaru, November 1

“One of those unfortunate cases in which a mother had overlain her

child,” was the coroner’s remarks today on recording a verdict of accidental death at an inquest on an infa. nt three weeks old. Palmerston North, November 1.

The body of Leslie Robert, aged 18, one of the victims of the recent boating tragedy at Foxton, was found on the Otalci beach to-day. All the bodies of the eight victims have now been recovered.

A youth named Parsons, 17 years of age, was caught in machinery at Greenhill’s quarry and shockingly mutilated. lie died in a few hours. His parents reside at the Bluff. Dunedin, November 1.

An old age pensioner named Jas. Critchfield, aged 78 years, residing with his wife at Caversham, committed' suicide this afternoon by hanging himself in a shed at the rear of his dwelling. Apparently he had been i\ nrryiug about some property transactions in which lie was engaged, but not to the extent to lead to any apprehension. At 3 o’clock he want to cue Caversham post office to get his pension, and at 3.30 his wife saw him going in the direction of the shed. ; he uocly was discovered at 5 o’clock. About 10.30 on Tuesday evening a man named George Gunther was taken to the hospital suffering from the effects of an injury supposed fo have been caused by being knocked down by another man near the corner of Willis and Manners Streets. When admitted to the hospital, Gunther was unconscious. In that condition ho remained until 3 o’clock this afternoon, when he died. Gunther was a station band and belonged to Masterton, but recently lie had been working at Pongorca. Deceased’s mother, who at present is very ill, and a brother reside at Marlon. The police are making inciuiries for the man who is supposed to have been responsible for the mishap to Gunther. An inquest will bo held to-morrow. I
