A GIRL'S DEATH.
<Y I)J OUEN F.!) i X QUEST.
(Per Press Association.) Christehurch, October 31
On October 10th an inquest was held in Christehurch on the body of a sixteen-year-old girl named Daisy Florence Turner, and at the inquest statements were made by Dr. Edward Jennings, which suggested a possibility that the girl's death was not entirely accidental. The adjournment of tnc inquest was an unexpected development, and sensational rumours were in circulation for some days concerning the girl's death. The published statement that the police were making inquiries satisfied the public curiosity for the time being, but during the past day or two the question Has been frequently asked as to when the inquest was to be resumed, and whether any further light had been thrown on the tragedy. Beyond the promise that the newspapers would receive due notice of the date of the resumption of the inquest, no information was given them by the police authorities, but an inquiry made by a reporter elicited the fact that the inquest had been concluded, as stated, on October 23rd, and that the death of the girl had been duly registered. The evidence of .Dr. W. H. Symes, who made a microscopical examination of the girl's clothing, pointed directly to the fact that deceased had been improperly intimate with a man some time previous to her decease, but exactly how much prior the witness was unable to state. This concluded the evidence, and the coroner returned a verdict of accidental death.
