GENERAL ELECTIONS.
TAUMARUNUI SEAT,
(Per Press Association.)
Waitara, October 31
Mr W. T. Jennings, Government candidate for the Taumaruuui ''seat, spoke last night, and defended the administration of the party. He largely quoted figures to show that though the public debt had increased, there was a decreased burden on ihe people in consequence of money being spent in greater proportion for production purposes. He made a, strong appeal to his audience to vote against the Opposition, for the reason that that Earty as a whole had endeavoured to lock the passing of the Waitara Harbour Board Bill four years ago, while the Government on the other hand helped the district to be freed of the New Plymouth liability. A vote of thanks only was proposed, followed by an amendment of thanks and confidence, the latter being carried by an overwhelming majority.
