THE LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS.
On Wednesday next nominations for seats on the Stratford and Whangamoniona County Councils close, and also for the County representatives on the Stratford District Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. So far very little interest in those matters seems to have been taken, and while this is probably due to the fact that each of the bodies referred to has been working amicably as at present constituted, it would possibly bo as well if the public generally took a more lively interest in what is being done. Even members themselves desire this, though doubtless the compliment of allowing well-doing and willing workers to continue in public office, is recognised and appreciated. There is one rather curious aspect of, the Hospital Board triennial elections. It is that while the financial year ends in March and Borough, representatives on the Board arc elected in April the County representatives—who form a solid majority of the Board, being six in number—are not elected until November. Should a Board he practically replaced it means that the 'work is taken up by a new Board without a report or balance sheet of what lias immediately gone before to guide it. This being so, naturally a very great deal of the administrative load must come from the secretary. In this regard Stratford is certainly very fortunate, for the secretary lias held his position from the Board’s inception, and it would lie difficult to find a more suitable man for the position or one in whom more implicit reliance could be placed.
