TOKO CORONATION HALL.
ANNUAL MEETING. (From our own Correspondent/) The annual general meeting of the above was held in the Coronation Hall, Toko, on Wednesday evening last, there being a moderate attendance of members, including several ladies. Thp unsettled state of the weather accounted for the absence of many. Mr W. H. Were', chairman of the Society, presided, and gave a brief resume of the year’s operations. The balance-sheet showed a debit balance of £214 Is, but the assets exceeded liabilities by £421. Since the balancesheet was issued 'the Coronation subsidy of £250 had been forwarded by the Govcnrmcnt to the Stratford County Council, who had transferred the amount to the society’s account. Several small debts had been incurred during the present month, but the land and buildings were practically free of debt, the debit balance at the present time amounting to the small sum of about £9. When the erection of the hall was commenced less than six months ago the money in hand was a trifle over £2OO, and now they possessed a model and up-to-date building as could hardly bo equalled in any other country, distract in the Dominion —a credit to the subscribers and an ornament to the district. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following new committee were ■ elected: Messrs W. H. Were, Edgar Hine, Geo. Morrison, M.- Gernhoefer, Evan Jones, W. T. Pearce, Dan Bain, J, Kilpatrick and G. E. Bocock; auditor, Mr Ed. Marfell (reelected). Messrs W. Pratt and D. The matter of opening a library and reading room in conjunction with the hall was discussed at length, Messrs Ed. Marfell, Geo. Morrison, and E. T. King strongly supporting the proposal, which will take definite shape before next winter. Reference was made to the action of the Defence Department, who had made inquiries about the hall for drill purposes, but so far had not acknowled receipt of the terms and conditions sent some considerable time ago. At the subsequent meeting of the committee, Messrs W. H. Were (chairman) and R. D. Milne (secretary and treasurer) wore re-elected for the ensuing year.
