(.Per Press Association.) Wellington, October 27. During discharging operations on the steamer Moana at the Queen’s wharf to-day it was discovered that a case, of tobacco had been opened and the contents tampered with. The police were advised and Detectives Andrews and Lewis, after making investigations, arrested eight men, who will be charged at the Magistrate’s Court this morning with the theft of tobacco. Christchurch, October 27. Rev. S. Lawry, secretary of the New Zealand Methodist Conference, lias received a communication from Australia to the effect that a Bill providing for ;vi independent New Zoa land Methodist Church has passed all its stages in the Now South Wales and Victorian Parliaments. Wanganui, October 27. An adjourned meeting of the Freezing Company is to be held on Tuesday to discuss the confirmation of a motion passed last week calling upon the directors to resign. The whole object of the opposition is to secure new management, there being no question as to the stability of the company.
