NORTHERN ASSOCIATION. THE COMING TOURNAMENT. (Per Press Association > Wellington. October 21. The Council of the Northern Bowling Association met to-night to make arrangements for a big tournament, commencing in Wellington on January Bth. Various committees wore set up, and a programme prepared as follows— Entries will be divided into sections, cf ton, and nine games of 21 heads will be played. No section ties will ho clayed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, winners of sections, and those who ■'tie in sections, to he divided into sections of four and three. Games of 21 heads will be played on Thursday. The winners or sections and those who tie in sections will play off (“sudden death”) for first and second prize banner and shield. The semi-finals will he played on Friday, and the final on Saturday. The third prize for rinks defeated in the champion games will he played on Thursday and Friday, and the first rounds of the rinks defeated in the champion rink games on Thursday the second round of rinks winning the first round and the rinks losing in the first round of the champion rink trials on Friday, the third round of, the rinks winning the second round and the rinks losing in the second round (if any) of the champion rink finals, first and second prize winners of the champion rink excluded. These matches, which will be decided by the “sudden death” rule, will he played on Friday, and the final on Saturday morning. The consolation prize, for rinks defeated in the champion ■•ink, will he played on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Entries will lie divided into sections of four, and three games of sixteen heads will be played. No section ties to lie played.* The matches will he arranged for Thursday and Friday, and the final (of twenty-one heads) for Saturday. It will ho noticed that the programme contains rink games only, and that pairs are done away with. Assuming that the number of ring entries will ho about a hundred, the earliest that any plaver can be put out of full rink play will bo Thursday night.
