PEACOCK’S CASE.

GUILTY OF MURDER. SENTENCED TO DEATH. (Received 25, 9.15 a.m.) Melbourne, October 25. Peacock was found guilty of the murder of Miss Davies, and sentenced to death. Prisoner denied that ho told Poke the girl had died, and lie had secretly disposed of her body, and burned Ivor clothes. He know nothing of the whereabouts of Davies after she left the hospital on August 25th. Ho recognised that it would have beep bettor had he thought less of her secret and more about himself; he had frankly told the detectives what he knew. The Chief .Justice strongly summed up against accused. He characterised the offence as heinous. It was a dreadful menace to the community. The practices of such men as Peacock induced young girls to take the risks and perils of an impure life.
