GENERAL ELECTIONS.
THE LIBERAL CANDIDATE AT ACKLAND ROAD. (From a Correspondent.) Although the weather was far from good, the Ackland Road School was crowded last night with electors to hear Mr' McCluggage deliver a political speech. Every preparation had been made for a good welcome to the candidate. Large bowls of the beautiful N.Z. clematis was much in evidence and at the conclusion of Mr McCluggage’s address the lady friends showed their large-hearted hospitality by entertaining all present to an excellent supper. This kindness on the part of the ladies was very much appreciated. The gathering was ably presided over by Mr G. Mackay, and tho audience gave Mr McCluggage an excellent hearing. A good deal of favourable comment was heard from many present at the quiet, earnest manner with .which Mr McCluggage expounds his political views, and, indeed, Mr McCluggage is gaining many friends wherever he speaks by the quiet, incisive way he deals with the leading political questions of the day, especially as he entirely avoids all personalities. : At the confusion of Mr McCluggage’s speech, on the 'motion of Mr (I. Knox, seconded by Mr Savage, a hearty vote of thanks and confidence in Mr McCluggage, and confidence in the present Government was carried nnammniislv, A vote of thanks to Mr Mackay, th? chairman, concluded an excellent meeting.
