SHOW DATES.
The “Taranaki News” refers to the possibility of the date of the general election clashing with the agricultural shows and how this fear is now exercising the minds of the committees cf the various agricultural and pastoral associations. It points out that the Taranaki Agricultural Society has its dates fixed for the 22nd and 23rd of .November, and may be considered tc bo tairiy safe, the probability being that the elections will be bold later in tho mouth or early in December. The Stratton; show takes place in the fjih.'H n.g week, and it will be little short of disastrous if the triennial upset... takes place then. Tho president of the Taranaki Society, Mr W. Ambury, has communicated very fully with Mr H. Okey, M.P., upon the matter, and has forwarded him a list showing that from the 9th November to the 2nd December there is not a single week-day clear of one or more agricultural shows. On some of the days included there are three shows to be held in different parts of the Dominion. From December 3rd to about the 6th there is a respite from shows. Tho Premier is, we understand, being urged to fix the elections for a date which will miss tho annual exhibitions whose dates have been announced. The poll must tak? place very early in December if tbs second ballots are to he concluded before Christmas, for it is provided that the second ballot must take place not more than a fortnight after the general election. No doubt Cabinet will give the agricultural bodies’ requests cverv consideration.
