It is uncertain whether they arc yet in full possession. The Arabs am well armed, and are fiercely resisting tiro Italians. It is reported that the Arabs butchered a number of Christians prior to the Italians landing. RED SEA IN DARKNESS. Constantinople, October 23. Owing to the Turkish lighthouses not being lighted, the Red Sea is in darkness. Britain proposed to the Porte the neutralisation of the waterway. The Porte is favourably inclined, but wishes to reserve the right to transport troops. NEWSPAPER DISCUSSION. London, October 23. Turkey’s admission to one of the European alliances is the subject of much European newspaper discussion. The Triple Alliance and Triple Entente are mentioned in turn without much basis beyond the Vizier’s allusion to Turkey’s need for alliances. The latest suggestion is an Anglo-Russo-Turkish combination. WELSH COAL FOR ITALIAN FLEET.
London, October 23. The Italian Government has ordered a hundred and fifty thousand tons of Welsh coal for war purposes.
