Following is the High Commissioner’s cabled market report, dated October 21 (quotations unless otherwise specified are average market prices on spot):— Mutton.—The market is quiet, but holders are firm, as stqcks on hand are light, and firmly ' held in few hands. Canterbury 4idp ‘North Island 3vd. Lamb.—The market is quiet, with less demand. Canterbury sd, other than Canterbury 4fd. Beef.—The market is very dull. The supply exceeds the demand ; New Zealand hinds 3kl, fores 2fd. Butter.—The market is lifeless. Transactions arc very limited, arid buyers arc not inclined to make forward purchases at present prices. Danish 140 s, Siberian 1235, Australian 1295.
Cheese.—There is no alteration since last week. Canadian 69s 6d. Hemp.—The market is i a shade weaker. New Zealand good fair spot 1-20, fair grade £l9, fair current Manila £2O os per ton, October-December shipments, New Zealand good fair £2O 10s, fair grade £l9 10s, fair current Manila £2O 10s per ton. The output from Manila for the week was 27,000 bales.
The cocksfoot seed market is firm. There are light stocks on hand. Wool.—The market is weaker and slightly lower. Current quotations for Bradford tops: 36’s low crossbreds Is Id, 40’s low crosbreds Is IJd, 44’s medium crosbreds Is IJd, 50’s halfbreds Is sfd, 56’s quarterbreds Is Bd, 00’s merinos 2s Id.
