AN UNCHARTED ROCK.
Lapt - Monday week the Ulimaroa touched a submerged object at the Bluff; which broke a piece off one of her’(propeller blades. The-probable cause of this is attributed to a dangerous; patch referred to as follows by the 1 Bluff Harbour Board in a communication to the Marine Depart-ment:-—“A dangerous patch of rock has • been discovered near the fairway; ;ut the entrance to Bluff Harbour; loasthdepth of water over it is 20 feet low water springs. The patch of rock is about 50 feet long by 20 feet wide. It lies about 100 feet south of the', line of green and white be: con lights-with the outer pile beacon 1 earing ifnpm it N. 26dcg. E. distant 400 feet.. A notice of this rock was published fin August, 1890, but as rotices of blasting operations to remove it were issued in 1897 and 1904, and no trace jqf it was found in the Penguin’s survey, of 1904, it was presumed that it laid been entirely removed. Charts, etc),, affected; Admiralty Charts Nos. 34841 (and 2540: ‘New' Zealand Pilot,’ eigjith! edition, 1908, chapter IX, page 273.” The foregoing warning w r as issued? in yesterday’s “Gazette” and the Bluff Harbour Board will give the matter attention at its next meeting.
