ALLEGED CRUELTY.
UNDERFED CHILDREN. (Per Press Association.) Whangaroi,. October 18. George Smitii, of PubipuJii, was charged at tne Court witii so starving ms two children as to endanger tueir lives. 3lie medical evidence showed that the children wore terribly emaciated. 'J'he elder boy, aged eight, weighed only 381 b., and tne younger boy, aged six, only 341 b. 1 hey have since improved a little by a few days’ care at tiic Whaugarci Hospital. Accused is a widower with a housekeeper. Ho was committed for trial, bail of £2OO being allowed.
