He had interviewed leading New Zealand sportsmen, and all favoured the totalisator. The Australian Jockey Club received £9IOO from Bookmakers. Altogether the public had to find two hundred odd thousand a year for the bookmakers. The Bill proposes that the Government receives 5 per cent, of the totalisator receipts. Mr. I Levien estimated ‘that one million would pass through the machine annually. Ho was prepared to accept an amendment. The women would not be allowed to bet.
