ATTEMPT ON ELS LIFE

Now York, October 17

A report from Santa Barbara, California, states that twenty-six sticks of dynamite were discovered on the Southern Pacific Railway’s steel bridge before the passing of Air Taft’s train.

The watchman fired shots at a suspicious character who was loitering near the track. He afterwards investigated and found the dynamite. The outrage is believed to he in connection with a strike of shopmen employed on the railroad. Mr.' Taft was .not informed of the dastardly attempt on his life.
