An elderly man named William Bryant was .found drowned in the Tanern River at Bidcford to-day. Ho had evidently slipped and fallen' into the water, and I)cin«i; stunned was unable to extricate himself. At the inquest this afternoon a verdict was returned of deatli from misadventure. AVhangarci, October 17.
At Whangarci, when digging in a town garden' to-day, a local resident unearthed a human skeleton, probably that of a girl, at a depth of only eighteen inches. Nothing is known positively connecting the discovery with a crime, but it is reported that a girl was missing from the house on the section a number of years ago. Auckland, October 17.
A deaf and dumb girl, aged live vears, named Eunice Cost-ley, was knocked down by a train and severely injured on the' railway crossing at Newmarket this afternoon. She resides with her grandfather near the crossing, and had started to go on a visit to her aunt. She was crossing the line when the Kaiparn train came along. She was knocked down bv the engine and rendered unconscious. She was taken to the hospital, where it was found that she was suffering from a severe concussion of the brain. The brakes were applied when the child was first seen. Iml the distance was too short to enable the train to pull up.
