TANGIWAI NOTES.

A very enjoyable social and dance was Lein iii cue Social Hall, Tangiwai, on Friday evening, the 6ch msu, wnen about ioO ladies and gentlemen turned up to trip tne lignt fantastic, tins being tiie largest gatiiering ever held in Tangiwai. 'The iiall was very artistically decorated with an abundant supply of hags, hunting, Chinese lanterns, and evergreens, and when lit up presented a very picturesque appearance. Groat credit is due to tne committee—Messrs. T. Rawlinson (chairman), A. Ralph (secretary), E. Goudy, G. Hobbs, A. Pope, F. Pennington, D. Farboothor, T. Tomsett, H. Towns, C. Chaplin, and G. Tussweek—for their untiring efforts to make the hall look pretty and the social and dance a success. Dancing commenced at 7.30 p.m. to the strains of music supplied on the piano ‘and accordeon by Messrs. Randall and Keegan. During the evening songs were very ably rendered by Mrs. Arms, Mrs. Tors, Miss Rush, the “Misses Norton (duet), Miss' Maude Rawlinson and Master David Symc (duet), Messrs. Stevens, Allan, H. Bosher, and Toehi, and a cake-walk by Miss Matthews, Miss Syme acting as accompanist. The local Maoris enlivened the evening by a. series of liakas. An excellent supper was served at 11.30 p.m., and. thanks are dho to Mesdames Syme, Blizzard, Rawlins.on, Norton, Collie. Towns, and Arms for having provided the viands. Dancing was kept up with great spirit till 3.30 a.m., when the company dispersed. all having thoronehlv enjoyed themselves and voting it rs being the best social and dance ever hold in Tangiwai or the surrounding neighbourhood. Miss ETo Syme was unanimously voted “belle of the hall.” and great credit is due to Mr. Gee. Hobbs for the able manner in which bo officiated as M.C. and keeping the hall rolling merrily.
