An earthquake in the Catania district killed six at Maccia and Santavenerna, and fourteen elsewhere. Fifty were injured. 'ire chief shocks were felt between Giarr’e and Acireale. Numerous farmhouses and villas were razed. The population was holiday -making outdoors; otherwise the casualties would have been more extensive.
