NEW ZEALAND ARMY. (Per Press Association.) Auckland ,October 13. General Godloy stated in an interview that training under the new defence scheme would start at the end ol this month. There would be a force of 22,000 in the Dominion ,while the strength would he brought up to 30,000 in four years. Encampments would be held between Christmas and the end of May, but the sites and delinite dates have not yet been fixed. AN ABANDONED CHILD. Dunedin, October 13. A female child, only a few hours old, was found in an outhouse at North Balclutha at 7 a.m. to-day. Its condition showed that it had been neglected at birth. The child was in a very weak state, but late this afternoon there appeared to be a possibility that it would survive. So far there is no clue as to its parentage. THE AUSTRALIAN CABLE. Invercargill, October 13. The Chamber of Commerce this afternoon decided to co-operate with the Dunedin Chamber in its ofiorts to persuade the Government to lay the second Australian cable between Melbourne and the Bluff.
