(Per Press Association ) Invercargill, October 12. There died at Seaward Bush on Wednesday afternoon John Stapleton, who was born in Tipperary in 1811. 1 b was not until 1883 (at the ago of 71) that he decided to emigrate, leaving his native land in the sailing ship Trovclton. He landed at Port Chalmers towards the end of tho year 1883, and arrived in Southland on New Year’s Day, 1884. Most of the time since then ho spent in Seaward Bush district. Always a labourer, Mr Stapleton was a very active man in his day, and till a few years ago enjoyed excellent health. Of late his ago has told on him, and for tho last I ino months he was compelled to take to his bed. Mr Stapleton, whose wife pre-deceased him forty vears ago, is survived by a son and daughter, and II grandchildren.
