At an Employers' Federation dinner, the president of the Chamber or Commerce advised employers to consolidate to meet the trouble—which would bo more acute than in the past —that was looking ahead owing to the march of unionism. PLEURO OUTBREAK. Sydney, October 13. A severe outbreak of pleuro has occurred among tiie cattle in the West Darling district. TELEGRAPHISTS UP IN ARMS. Sydney, October 13. The Telegraphists are up in arms over the proposed changes in the hours of working, which are operating from Monday. They threaten to precipitate a general strike in the service. MAWSON’S EXPEDITION. Brisbane, October 13. The Premier told a deputation asking for financial assistance for Mawsou’s expedition that ho could not entertain the Government contributing towards the fund. The finances of the State were unable to bear any extra strain. WAGES RAISED. Perth, October 13.^ The Government has raised the minimum wage of all railway workers to 9s. MOUNT LYELL MINE. Melbourne, October 13. The Mount Lyell returns from September 7th to October 4th inclusive are:—16,052 tons oro treated, also 24 tons purchased, one converted, produced 344 tons blister copper, containing copper 340 tons, silver 20,236 ounces, gold oil ounces. Operations wore suspended on September 23rd owing to the strike.
