MANAWATU LADIES’ MEETING

The Mahawatu ladies’ open poll' championship meeting was commenced to-day,atHokowbitu in fine weather. THo Medal Handicap was won by Mins H; Gorrie (Auckland), 97—17 80, Miss Mason being next with 105— 24-P-81. apd Mrs G. Williams (Mastfcrjdn) third with 86—2—84. iThe following is the result, of the firstrouqd of the championship (match play):—Mrs Williams beat Miss E. Pierce. 5 and 3; Miss McLean beat Mirts Campbell. 3 and 2; Mrs Moore beat; Miss 11. Gorrie, 1 up; Miss A. Tierce beat Miss Hamlin, 3 and 2; Miss Gould beat Miss Tweed, 3 and 2; Miss Wilson beat Miss Sybil Abraham, 7 and 5; Miss G. Gorrie heat Miss Wray, G and 4; Miss Cooper heat M ; ss •Hrh.or. 7 and 5. Miss,G. Gorrie went out in 36, and did the 14 holes in 64. Had she gone on she would probably have had the second.; As it was the 36 is a links record, the professional record being 37.
Miss Sybil Abraham won the driving competition with 188yds Ift, Miss Wray being second with 172yds ISin. The approach and mitt competition was won by Miss E. Pierce (Auckland). In the championship to-morrow Miss McLean meets Miss Williams; Miss A. Pierce meets Miss Moore; Miss R. Wilson meets Miss Gould; Miss G. Gorrie meets Miss Cooper.
