INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION. ' (Per Press Association.)
• Christchurch, October 11, The Canterbury Trades and Labour Council’s industrial exhibition will bo opened on October 26th, an official representative of tire Government lormally declaring the exhibition open. At a luncheon afterwards speeches •sill be given by prominent men in labour circles, by presidents of industrial and employers’ associations, aid by representatives of various rcigious denominations. Very numerous entrie.s have been, received in tiro various competition classes, and those promise to be a very important and interesting feature. ANTI-MILITARIST PROTEST. Christchurch, October 11. At a meeting of tire Christchurch Anti-Militarist League arrangements nave been made for the distribution of. peace and anti-militarist literature in the city electorates. The following motion was unanimously agreed go: “That this meeting tenders its most emphatic pretest, against the scandalous admissions of the defence authorities concerning the prosecution of those who had "not registered under the Defence Act, wherein it is intended to prosecute only in special eases, and is of opinion that such is ,i deliberate prostitution of the people’s ideals of equity and justice.” RAILWAY STRIKE SCOUTED. Christchurch, October 11. Railwayman in Christchurch, interviewed on the subject of a probable strike of railway employees, scout tiie idea, and state that they had not .rear’d even a suggestion of such an improbable and preposterous idea. A CHARGE OF BIGAMY. Christchurch, October 11. Grace Annie MacTagga.it pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Court tolay to a charge of bigamy. She was .irst married in 188 G, but her Imsland left, her, and as sire did not hear Tom him for thirteen years she considered she had a perfect right to marry Charles Ashby in 1906. She ,vas committed for sentence to the Supreme Court, bail being allowed.
AUCKLAND WATERSIDE WORKERS’ UNION.
Auckland, October 11. The Auckland Waterside Workers’ Jnion has decided to take a ballot ipou the question of cancellation cf their registration under the Arbitration Act. and registration with the New Zealand Federation of Labour.
AN INCORRIGIBLE PRISONER
Auckland, October 11
At the Police Court to-day, a prisoner at Mount Eden gaol named Frederick Logan was, charged before Mr E. C. Gotten, S.M., with having on September 27th assaulted Warder R. \V. Thompson and having incited other prisoners to mutiny by calling on thorn to come to his assistance. He was convicted and sentenced to an idditional six months’ imprisonment, and also ordered to lie placed on bread and water for seven days. The •same prisoner received an additional six months in February last for an assault on another warder. His original sentence is one of four years for theft.
