BOWLING.

TARANAKI BOWLING ASSOCIATION. A PROVINCIAL COMPETITION , INAUGURATED. A meeting of delegates to the Taranaki Bowling Association was held in the Patea Chib’s pavilion yesterday, when there were present : Messrs Taylor (Waverley), A. Smart (New Plymouth and Stratford), 0. N. Firth (West End and Fitzroy), Murray (Elthara), Pearce (Patea), and Riley (Hawera). It was resolved that the next annual tournament he played at Patea and Waverley on February 13, 14, and 15, 1912, and the arrangements for the same will be left in the hands of the Patea and Waverley clubs, who will draw up programmes and send copies to the various clubs entered. Entries will close on February 1.

The question of arranging for an interclub provincial banner tournament was discussed. It was pointed out that the half-holiday fell on Thursday in North Taranaki and on Wednesday in South Taranaki, and it was also considered that the travelling would come rather heavy on chibs situate away from the line. Ultimately it was decided to divide the province into three districts, viz., North, to comprise New Plymouth, Fitzroy, West End, Waitara, Inglewood, Stratford and Eltham; South, comprising Hawera, Waverley and l atea; and central, comprising Manaia, Pihama. and Opunake. Matches will i>e played by each club in each division, and the winners of south and central will meet at Hawera to decide who is to meet, the northern dinners at Stratford. Each club must be represented by not less than tluee rinks. Definite fixtures will not be drawn up, but will be loft to iniii-ual arrangement by the clubs. It was, however, decided that the competition must l)e finished by March 31. Messrs A. Smart and 0. N. birth were deputed to arrange for a suitable banner, funds for wind) will lie collected pro rata from the various clubs.
