MR. McCLUGGAGE’S SPEECH.
(To the Editor “Stratford Post.”)
Sir, —Those who hoard Mr Joseph McCluggage lor the first time last night must have been agreeably surprised at the range of his knowledge of political questions, and the readiness with which ho handled the various heads dealt with. For a now platform speaker, Mr McCluggage certainly achieved wonderful success. His ,utterances were clear and to the point, and what is more, ho was never at a loss for something to say of interest. On the land question he was particularly strong, and his championship of the backblock settlors could not , hut .he appreciated oven _ by those 'whoso political views differed from ins own. Mr McCluggage dealt with every subject of _ importance to tiie : Dominion as a wiiolo, and the Taranaki' province in particular, and he justified his action in seeking to ho returned to Parliament as the member for Stratford in the Liberal interest. —I am, etc., LIBERAL.
