PARISH HALL.

CONCERT AND SMOKER. A most enjoyable time was spent last evening, when a large company of men. in response to tiie invitation of the Church of England Men’s Society, congregated in the Parish Hall to smoke the pipe of peace. The free and easy character of the proceedings enabled all to thoroughly enjoy themselves. The Vicar, the Rev. W. A. Butler, M.A., opened with a few remarks .that set the hall rolling.’ Some excellent musical items were rendered, and some very interesting and humorous tales were void. The “Law Yarns” by Mr T. C. hookas were especially interesting and well received, causing much merriment.

The musical items were; Songs by Messrs J. H. Thompson, J. H. Hobbs, A. King, C. R. Reader, V/. V. Wilson, E. Wilkie, and E. W. Lewis; ducts by Messrs II . \v. Douglas and A. L. .(ones, and Messrs E .W. Lewis and W. V. Wilson—all of which were well rendered and much appreciated. Mr .7. H. Thompson kindly acted as accompanist. During a substantial supper, the Vicar announced that it was the intention of the gentlemen to give an evening to the ladies at an early date, the admission to lie ladies free, gentlemen a “basket.” The hidden mysteries of the kitchen will lie conducted by the gentlemen, and wo are given to understand that the members of the medical profession will bo strongly urged to attend. Mr J. H. Hobbs (lion, sec.) thanked the company for coming in such good numbers in response to the invitation, and expressed the hope that another similar function would be enjoyed at no distant date.

Tim singing of the National Anthem brought the proceedings to a close at 10.45 p.m.
