At the wool sales there was good competition for everything at fell late rates. Newton King’s Weekly Report. On Thursday, the 28th September, at Kaponga, I cleaved Mr. .1. Caughey’s nerd of, 90',cows, which were mostly grade Shorthorns in fair condition, and the majority of which had . calved. There was a good attendance,- and bidding from tho very start of the sale 'was unusually brisk, it: soon being apparent that a record average would he obtained. The heif- " era were no exception, and sold very well. These, with the 90 cows, made the high average of £ll 7s per head. Hairy cows, in milk and close to profit, made from £9. 10s to £lB 15s, later £6 os to £7,;. cows (unsound in some quarters) £4'ss to £9 10s, heifers (springing) up to £lO, yearling heifers £2 16s, draft mare £36 10s, aged gelding £lO, calves 3s to 8s; the sundries sold well. On Friday, the 29th September, I held a clearing sale at Mahoe on account of Messrs. H. and H, O. Johnson. It was snowing when the sale started, hut cleared up afterwards. Considering the quality and condition, the cows sold well. Cows, in milk and close up, £7 10s to £l3 15s; later, £5 to £6 10s; with defective quarters, £4 5s to £l3 ss; springing heifers, £6 5s to £9 15s; empty cows, £4 10s; -hoggets, 14s; 5 year mare, £25 ss; 4 year (gelding, yearling . colt, £l4 10s; Ayrshire bull, £8 ss; \ Jersey, £7; yearling bull. £3 12s Od; pigs, slips, 11s ; sofs, 27s _to £5 ; sow and litter of "ten, £6 ss; store pigs,. 14s to 18s. At Ureßtii on Monday, the 2nd inst., there was a good yarding, and good attendance,, bidding throughout was slack, but good business was done before the sale concluded, at the following prices:—Yearling to 18 months heifers, grade Jerseys, £3 Is; grades and other sorts, 33s to £2 13s 6d; good 15 months steers, ,£2 15s 6d; IS months' do., £3 12s; 2 year emptv heifers, £3 18s; 18 months mixecl, £3 7s, 6d; bulls, £2 10s to £3; store cows, £3 14s to £3 19s 6d; forward cows, £4 ss; fat cows, £4 1 1 s 6d' to £5 12s 6d; springing heifers, £3 16s to £6 7s; springing cows and calved, £7; hoggets, 11s to 13s Id; . -•'ewes and lambs, 14s Id; store pigs, I 1 20s 6d to 29s 6d.' 1 \ At my Stratford sale on Tuesday there was a good entry and attendance, with a keener enquiry after all classes, especially young stock. Empty 2 year heifers were keenly sought after, and store cows sold well. Yearling heifers, Holstein-Jorsey, £3 to £3 7s; grades, 34s to £3; yearling steers, £2 10s to £2 16s 6d; empty 2 year heifers, £3 18s to £4 3s 6d; store cows, £3 5s to £3 12s 6d; 2 year steers, £4 14s 6d; fat cows, £5 9s to £6 2s; forward, £4 5s to £4 15s; fat heifers, £4 15s; yearling hulls, 3/s to £3 4.5; Holstein aged bull, £5 10s. On the same day I had a large catalogue at my springing heifer yards, and some first-class dairy cows and heifers were disposed of. There was an unsatisfied demand for dairy cows, and the heifers sold well. Cows, springing and in milk, £7 to £l2 ss; do., heifers, £6 to £9 2s 6cl. At Stony River on Wednesday I had a:n exceptionally heavy entry, though, owing to the scarcity of feed in the district, the enquiry was dull. J Mixed yearlings made: _3ls to £2 0s v 6d; yearling heifers, 35s to £2 15s; \do. Jersey, £3 6s 6d; yearling steers, 31s to £2 10s 6d; 15 months Holstein heifers, £3 4s; 6d; 18 months ■ steers, £3 6s; 2 year steers, £4 to £4 6sA store cows, £2 14s to £3 7s; forward, £3 17s to £4 6s; fat cows £5 13s; springing heifers, £4.12s 6d to £6 os; springing cows, £6; ewes, forward, 10s Od; bulls, £3 5s to £B.

Matthews and Bennett. Messrs. Matthews and Benntt report that'at Mr. Maybe’s sale on Tuesday last there was a fair attendance of buyers, and everything sold •well. Prices wore as follows: —Dairy cows £5 to £9 15s, bull £lO, weaners £1 to £1 9s, sow and litter £5 15s, and sundries sold very well., At their Inglewood yards oh Wednesday last there was a big yarding of cattle, bidding was good for all classes, and jnjost lines changed hands and ad,owncod prices in late sales.
