The Sydney and Melbourne banks have advanced buying rates of exchange on London by live shillings per centum, and reduced the selling rates similarly.
FRUIT EXPORT

A deputation from the Fruit-grow-ers’ Union waited on iVi r Trefle and protested against the now regulation requiring that 10 per cent of the fruit shipped to New Zealand must bo tipped out for inspection on the ground that it damaged the fruit. The deputation asked for a reversion to the old system. Mr Trefle said the whole trouble had arisen from the careless system of despatching fruit to New Zealand. Many honest growers had been victimised by dishonest shippers labelling fruit from orchards where it had not been grown. He promised to see if it was possible to revert to the old method with modifications.

ENTOMBED MINERS RELEASED

The men entombed in Marshall’s Queen Mine have been rescued. One was ill with pleurisy, and in a very weak state. The others are well.
MOUNT MORGAN MINE
The Mount Morgan- returns during September show that the gold-re-duction works treated 9435 tons of ore for 4061 ounces of gold. The copper-reduction plant treated Gl2 tons silieious gold ore, 7571 tons Many Peaks ore, and 14,018' tons copper ore, producing 515 tons blister copper, containing 540 tons copper and 5396 ounces of gold.
