WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY.
(To the Editor, “Stratford Post.”
Sir, —It Is easily seen rrom youi report of the Whanganiomona County Council’s last meeting that Mr W. A. McCutchan continues to take an interest in County matters, particularly those affecting the Tahora ratepayers. His latest proposal is to levy a special rate on the Tahora riding for the upkeep of the Main Road in the adjoining central riding, presumably with the object of lessening the burden of rates on the ratepayers of that, riding. As Mr McCutchan is one of the heaviest ratepayers of the central riding, he is likely to benefit materially by this scheme, and it. is only natural that ho should head the deputation in support of the proposal. 1 understand that there is a movement on foot in the central riding to get Mr McCutchan to stand for the Council at the next election. The ratepayers of that riding are only human, and no wonder they want such a genius to represent them at the Council table with a proposal to case their rates at the expense of a neighbonr-
ing riding. Let Mr McCutchan got back to the Council by all means, but let him bo elected by the Tahora ratepayers, in which' riding lie has property and in this respect is eligible. Let him go to the poll against the present representative with this wondrous proposal as a “sop to the electors,” and if ho gets a scat I will have nothing further to say. If, on the other hand, he is defeated, let him take it as another hint that Tahora can get along very well without his attention.—l
