PURE MILK SILL.

(Per Pr<-sa Association.) Wellington, October 4. A deputation representing the Fresh Food and Ice Co., in which £30,000 is invested, and other milk vendors waited on Sir James Carroll to-day to object to what has been referred to as the “monopoly clause” of the City Council’s Pure- Milk Bill now before Parliament. A strong protest was entered against private concerns being driven out of the industry and the opinion was expressed that if the Wellington Council were given a monopoly other cities would seek the same powers. The companies did not object to the severest inspection. Sir James Carroll promised- that Cabinet would consider tire representations.

A public meeting is to lie held at Strathmore on Monday next to form a District Nursing Association for the Tututawa, Makaliu, Strathmore, To worn, Pohokura, Kiore, and Huiroa districts.

A match has been arranged between Mr. S. Fahey, the well-known Broadway tobacconist, and Mr. Harry Jaikes, to run 75 yards for a substantial stake, at Victoria Park tomorrow afternoon. The conditions are that Mr. Fahey will allow one yard for every year Mr. Jaikes is older than himself. It is proposed to make a gate charge, the proceeds to ho handed to the Stratford Hospital.
