The Amalgamated Executive at Dublin resolved to call a general strike of Irish transport workers unless the railway companies unconditionally reinstate the strikers. Pitiable scenes are being witnessed in the poorer quarters of the city. Largo queues form at five in the morning outside the Co-operative Society’s stores and bakers’ shops, fruitlessly waiting to buy bread after regular’ customers have been supplied. The- police -protect the vans to prevent ..looting.

NORWICH RAILWAY WORKS

After lasting eight weeks, the strike of five thousand railway men at Norwich works has been settled largely in favour of- the men. The loss of wages amounted to £36,000, and strike pay toalled £19,000.

Negotiations with representatives of the Lyell Company and employees indicate tliat if the men waive the reinstatement of the dismissed man the company are practically to concede everything else.

Two hundred sausage case workers struck for an increase of two shillings weekly.
